Adam takes Caistor Lions pennant on Everest challenge trip

The former Caistor Grammar School pupil is taking part in a charity trek through Nepal in a bid to raise £25,000 for The Children’s Society.

He had hoped to attempt the challenge last year, but all trekking was abandoned after an earthquake in the area killed more than 8,000 people.

Now the region is open once more, and he and the rest of his team from Loughborough University, are setting off for Kathmandu on March 24.

“Hardly being the epitome of fitness, it won’t be an easy task for me but it will be completely worthwhile if it enables me to help generate much-needed funds for The Children’s Society,” said the 20-year-old architectural engineering student, whose 11-day trek will involve walking a total of 129km (80 miles) much of it at heights well above 4,500 metres.

The Lions group presented Adam with a cheque and pennant,plus a tee-shirt declaring ‘Sponsored by Caistor Lions’, which Adam promised to wear on the slopes of Everest.

“We’re delighted to be able to support Adam in this challenge and wish him every success,’ said the club’s vice president Peter Morris.

“We’re also excited to think that a pennant from Caistor and District Lions Club will be planted for all to see at the Everest Base Camp.”
