After school awards

The 75 Laughton Junior and Infant School pupils earned their awards by taking part in 30 or more hours of after school activities during the school year.

They had a go at everything from gardening club and street dancing to cup cake decorating and sporting activities.

“A massive proportion of the school takes part in after school activities, with over 50 per cent gaining the award,” said Julie Twiss, extended schools officer at Rotherham.

“This is the first time the school has runt the initiative, but hopefully next year we’ll have even more on offer.”

Laughton is the only school within Rotherham that takes part in the Children’s University - a national scheme that promotes learning activities outside of normal school hours.

The pupils were presented with their certificates and medals in a special assembly by headteacher Caroline Keating, watching by their proud parents.

“The children were very excited to get their awards. We had over 100 parents here to see them and they enjoyed it as much as the children,” added Julie.
