Alana Howe, who lives in Old Bolingbrooke, is studying floral design at Bishop Burton College near Hull.

She travels to college two days a week, finishing an honours degree course this summer.

Alana has already completed a two year foundation degree at Bishop Burton and graduated with a distinction.

She also works part-time at Rosedale House, a recently opened florist and floral design business in North Street.

Anyone passing by the shop will have noticed a striking design in the window which showpieces the best of British flora and fauna and is all Alana’s work.

It’s not just customers and and shop owner Michelle Roworth who are impressed with Alana.

She is one of a team of six students from Bishop Burton who have been handed a chance to exhibit at the world famous Chelsea Flower Show in May.

The Queen and other members of the Royal Family will be among the thousands of visitors who attend the event.

Alana said: “It’s a really exiting time and we’re working on our design for Chelsea.

“Basically, we are going to decorate a Tuck-Tuck but we’re still deciding the details. It’s a great opportunity.”

Alana admits she loves working in Horncastle and is happy designing small bouquets or grander displays for weddings and funerals.

The current window design - featuring a twisted willow - took 15 hours to assemble!

Alana admits flowers are ‘an obsession’ but is unsure what career path to follow. She intends to travel but says flowers will ‘never be far away’.
