Alford woman, 22, could lose nursery job after drink-drive conviction

Melanie Newton, of Hamilton Road, admitted driving with excess alcohol when she appeared at Skegness Magistrates’ Court on October 13.

The court heard that she was seen to be driving too fast as she approached a police car at 2.10am on September 13 in Skegness and when she gave a breath test was found to have a reading of 60 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Mitigating, Carrie Simpson said Newton had a few drinks at work before going out.

“This conviction may affect her CRB check at the nursery where she works and she may lose her job,” she told the magistrates.

Newton was fined £120 and ordered to pay £255 in costs and charges.

She was disqualified from driving for 17 months but was offered the drink drivers’ rehabilitation programme which would reduce the period of disqualification by 17 weeks
