All the luck of the Irish at nursery

AN Anston pre-school was awash with green on Monday as the children celebrated St Patrick’s Day.

The tots at Hillcrest Early Years Pre-School donned green clothing and hats to get into the spirit in honour of the patron saint of Ireland.

Many of the children, aged between two and four, celebrated the occasion by wearing green clothing.

The green themed continued throughout the day during activities including painting and making jelly. They even listened to some Irish music.

Their green jelly was put to good use when the children all enjoyed an Irish-themed party.

“They had a lovely time and seemed to enjoy themselves,” said pre-school manager Ann Field.

“I like having events like this. It’s to get them to learn about other cultures and different events that other places celebrate.”

Ann is currently planning events for the Olympics and a street party for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Ann added: “This week the children have done and Easter egg hunt, made Easter cards and have been decorating Easter cards. There is always something we are doing around an event.”

The children are also busy painting their own designs which will be made into eco-friendly cards by a company.

“The children will all get a card back to take home. We also do a similar thing at Christmas,” said Ann.
