Annual baby loss remembrance service

The annual baby loss memorial service, which is now in its 24th year, is being held in partnership with Scunthorpe General Hospital’s chaplaincy department and the church on Saturday October 11 at 3pm.

Everyone who has been affected by pregnancy loss, stillbirth or neonatal death is invited to attend the service, where they will have the opportunity to light a candle in remembrance of the loss that The event is being held as part of National Baby Loss Awareness Week, which runs between October 9 and 15. It is a time of year when many people throughout the country gather together at events to share in the opportunity to remember their babies in a special way.

The Revd Charles Thody, Trust lead chaplain, said: “The loss of a pregnancy or death of a baby, is truly devastating and, I believe, possibly the toughest loss imaginable. Grief can be so intense and people can feel very lonely with it. The opportunity to experience an event such as this annual service is one way to help with this grief journey.

“In the past many who have attended have told us how much comfort they receive from not only taking part in the service, but also meeting others who have shared their experience.

“No matter the circumstances of the loss, all are welcome to come along to this service. In previous years it has always been a very moving experience and we hope people will feel able to come along and join with others again this year.”
