Appeal after stone damages train window - causing over £1,000 worth of damage

Repairing the shattered glass and window is estimated to cost somewhere between £1,500 and £2,000.

The incident took place in the area close to Retford station on Thursday June 2 at 4.50pm.

A stone smashed the outer skin of window.

The damaged train was the Virgin Trains East Coast 4.02pm York to Kings Cross service.

PC Kevin Challinor said: “The service was hit by the stone as it approached the A6182 bridge in Doncaster coming from the industrial estate road. “The stone smashed the outer skin of the window which resulted in the driver having to travel at a reduced speed, causing disruption and delays across the network.

“Fortunately on this occasion no one was injured, but the consequences could have been much worse.

“This was an extremely dangerous act which put the driver and passengers on the train in danger. We need the public’s help to trace those responsible. If you have any information please contact us.”
