Appreciate an apprenticeship

Thousands of youngsters will leave school this summer faced with the choice of whether to stay on in education or find a job.

Many, however, are finding that they can combine the two and are getting the best of both worlds by choosing one of the wide range of apprenticeships through North Notts College – earning while they learn.

This nationally-recognised programme gives young people the opportunity to earn a decent starting wage, learn on the job and at college to gain real qualifications combined with valuable work experience.

North Notts College - ranked the ‘best performing college’ in the county – works with a wide range of employers to support apprentices both in the workplace and on placements at the college.

Apprenticeships are available in accountancy, administration and IT, hair and beauty therapy, construction and building services, catering and hospitality, childcare, engineering, motor vehicle, fabrication and welding, logistics, warehousing and distribution and management.

Among them are Chris Pepper, 18, from Retford who is currently studying sport and exercise science at the college and is now looking forward to starting an apprenticeship with Bassetlaw Council sports development team.

“The apprenticeship is a great opportunity for me to gain experience in all elements of coaching, from planning a session to leading,” said Chris.

“This will prove invaluable in years to come after university when applying for jobs, as having work experience within the sports industry is vital.”

North Notts College is a sponsor of the Best In Schools awards and has recently launched their new Picture Yourself awareness campaign to highlight the wide range of the opportunities available for young people in Worksop.
