Meadows Community Association has been awarded the cash for a new 18-month project to provide regular activities and events for all ages on the Meadows Estate.

The group has been working in partnership with Waterloo Housing, Children’s Links and artist May Jones on the project. A spokesman for Children’s Links said the funding will help to provide weekly play sessions for children and young people and monthly activities and art classes for the older generation.

She added: “The aim of all activities is to improve relationships between people on the estate, encourage local people to be more actively involved and to increase their skills and confidence.

“Key challenges include inter-generational tensions, lack of affordable activities and fear of antisocial behaviour. The Meadows is an area that includes older people and young families and the community events will help build positive community relationships. The activities provide a positive opportunity for the older residents.

“The play sessions are led by staff who provide a safe environment for children to socialise and try new things.”
