Asda gives animal sanctuary cash boost

THORNBERRY animal sanctuary has received a surprise gift from supermarket giants Asda.

The store in Gateford has given the Dinnington-based charity £500.

Sanctuary fundraiser Sarah Froggatt said: “Thornberry were completely surprised to receive this, and it will go a long way to paying for the veterinary care of the new dogs.”

“These poor dogs have come to the sanctuary from council pounds and have literally been saved from certain death; they were unclaimed strays and were to be removed to make way for more. They are never in good health when we receive them, so some of this donation will be spent helping them recover from coughs, malnutrition and various skin problems in order to give them a fresh start in life and prepare them for new homes.”

She said the rest of the money would go towards supporting the stables, which is receiving lots of horses and ponies and is experiencing a few births, by buying bedding and feed.

“Without Asda’s generosity, these tasks would be more difficult to achieve, and we are extremely grateful for their support and good wishes,” added Sarah.
