Aston: Man dead and woman in critical condition after fatal crash on A57

The accident occurred at around 1am on Aston Way, near to the M1 junction 31 roundabout and the fire station, towards Sheffield.

The road remains closed in both directions from the B6067 Worksop Road to the A618 Mansfield Road and is likely to stay so for some time yet while police continue investigations at the scene.

A moped was one of the vehicles involved although it is currently unclear who the rider was.

Police believe the collision may have involved a second vehicle, which would probably have suffered frontal damage as a result.

Police are keen to speak to the driver of this vehicle, or to anyone who has seen a vehicle in or around the area this morning with damage that could have been recently sustained in this incident.
