The Axholme Connexion faces imminent closure after struggling over the last year with no rehearsal pianist and a dwindling number of members.

Since its 1995 launch the group has performed across the region, raising in excess of £750,000 for local, national and international causes.

Chairman Linda Lawcock said: “We have sent money for fishing boats to Sri Lanka after the Tsunami; raised over £1,500 in one day to go to help the Mozambique flood relief; hospital tents were sent in our name to help with the earthquake in India.

“Locally Peter Sanderson (group founder) rallied round collecting water, disinfectant and bedding plus much more for the people of Toll Bar, Doncaster when they were flooded a few years ago. Every year we have donated to the local British Legion from our Remembrance concerts plus helping local churches and chapels with their continued fundraising. The list is endless, and it is such a shame to think this group must now close its doors for the last time.

“What was started as a single concert to help Crowle Methodist Chapel roof fund, it went on to benefit many other organisations, and as a group we are very proud of our work. Over the years we have had members from as young as three years old who have gone to have children of their own and kept in touch with us which is lovely.

“I am extremely proud of our achievements and send my sincere thanks to all members over the years who have given their time freely and worked tirelessly for the group.”
