Tony Trevor has gone back to his school days for his second book Seek the Light.

His first book, How the River Flows, which focused on growing up in Middle Rasen, was a great success and he is optimistic his new book will also stir lots of memories.

Market Rasen Secondary Modern School taught hundreds of children over the 37 years it was open - from 1937 to 1974 - and in 1957, a young Tony Trevor arrived at the school.

“I went there from 1957 to 1961,” said Tony.

“I wasn’t top of the class, but I always had a talent for reading - it is something I still love today.”

And it is this love of reading that has inspired the former postman to put pen to paper and write his own books.

“It all started when I decided to have a crack at writing something about my working life - just for the family,” said Tony.

“It started out as an A4 folder, but ended up as a proper book; now I seem to be hooked.

“Local history is a big thing at the moment and when I was looking for books on the old school, I couldn’t find one, so I thought it would be a good thing to do.”

Research began very slowly, but then Tony had a bit of luck.

“I was grateful to receive some tapes done by the late Dick Allison, who was a teacher at the school, and his memories really boosted the research,” said Tony.

“Then it was off to Lincolnshire Archives to go through governor reports.

“I also got quite a few anecdotes from people I know.

“I have tried not to make it sound like a textbook.

“It is just a few facts and some light-hearted reminiscences, with a bit of humour added, which I hope people will find readable and interesting.”

The book contains a number of photographs, but sadly not one of Trevor.

“I don’t have any pictures of me at school - I don’t even remember any photographs being taken,” added Tony.

Seek the Light is available to buy at Something Special in market Rasen’s Queen Street and direct from Tony on 01673 844108.
