Thousands of pounds have been raised for good causes through a ball held in memory of a Burgh le Marsh teen who died suddenly in 2012.

Craig Rawlinson was just 18 when he died from an undiagnosed heart condition during football training at Skegness Academy.

Last year, a memorial ball in his name organised by his family raised more than £7,500.

It led to defibrillators being installed at sites in Burgh le Marsh, Ingoldmells and Skegness, as well as further afield in Boston.

Last month, at Skegness’ Southview Park Hotel a second memorial ball was held and proved a ‘huge success’, Craig’s mum Kay said.

“At the moment we have not collected all the money in but we are very confident of a total in excess of £5,000,” she added. She thanked businesses in the area that provided the prizes for the raffle and auction.

The funds will be used to pay for more defibrillators in the area, and the family are also keen to support cardiac screening.

Craig died of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, which can be detected through screening, they point out.
