Banovallum headteacher defends school after '˜disappointing' league table results

The results show that only 35 per cent of pupils at Banovallum achieved five or more GCSE passes between Grades A*-C, including English and Maths.

That figure leaves the school well down the national and East Lindsey League tables.

Ms Shore admitted results for her school in English were ‘disappointing’ but defended standards in the department.

She also stressed it was ‘meaningless’ to compare Banovallum’s results with other schools and pointed out that steps had been taken to ensure improvements would take place.

Ms Shore said the school - now part of an Academy link up with the town’s Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School - was already seeing benefits.

She added: “I can’t deny that the school had some unexpected results in the summer but it is on a secure pathway to excellence, as has been seen through our track record and anyone who has been in the school and working with us has verified this to be the case.”

Parents of pupils at the school contacted the News to praise standards - and the work of Ms Shore and her teaching staff.

QEGS - a selective Grammar School - boasted a 96 per cent return at GCSE level, while 99 per cent of pupils achieved three or more A levels between grades A*-C.

Those results mean QEGS is one of the best performing schools in the county.

The Tattershall and Coningsby-based Barnes Wallis Academy had a 32 per cent success rate at GCSE level.
