Barlborough drink-driver

A DISPUTE in a club led to police being tipped off that a Barlborough motorist was drink-driving, a court heard.

Officers stopped a car after it left Clowne Liberal Club and driver Thomas Kirwan refused to take a breath test.

“He didn’t think he was over the limit but he stupidly refused to co-operate with the procedure,” Kirwan’s solicitor, John Wilford, told magistrates at Chesterfield.

Kirwan, 60, of The Crescent, admitted failing to provide a breath specimen for analysis on 26th April.

Kirwan, who works as a plant operator in the West African republic of Sierra Leone, had committed a drink-driving offence in the past.

He was fined £1015, with £85 costs, and given a three-year driving ban.
