Barnes Wallis students are six of the very best

Tia Ferguson, Lauren Houldershaw, Mason Warren, Abbie Williams, Lily-Mai Stanton and Amy Maclean-Brian are members of the Academy’s Interact Club.

They have all received the award after organising a variety of fundraising activities in the local community.

The activities ranged from helping shoppers pack bags at Budgens supermarket in Woodhall Spa to holding a cake sale.

The students have raised hundreds of pounds for charities, including London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital.

David Lancaster, Executive Principal at the Barnes Wallis Academy, said: “We are extremely proud of this group of students.

“The Diana Award will encourage them to continue their fantastic fundraising work and will hopefully inspire others.”

The group is guided by Mrs Andy, coordinator of the Interact Club at the Academy.

Mr Lancaster added: “Mrs Andy and the group are delighted to receive an award in recognition of their work in our community - and their very close link with the Rotary.”

Since 1999, the Diana Award has recognised over 44,000 young people who have made a positive difference to the lives of others and their communities. The Diana Award believes young people should be encouraged to contribute to society, empowered to reach their full potential and that they should be engaged in social action as early in life as possible.
