Barry is a games maker

A LOCAL councillor made the trip down to London to volunteer at the Olympics.

Carlton Parish Council chairman Barry Bowles spent over four weeks working as a games maker for press operations at the Olympic Park.

He was one of a team of 30 specialist drivers transporting athletes and Olympic officials to and from venues and press conferences.

“The highlight was being able to sit with the press next to the finishing line,” said Barry.

“And being next to the high jump area on the first morning of the athletics in the Stadium and seeing Jess Ennis break the record for the hurdles in the heptathlon and compete in the high jump.”
