Bassetlaw: Council plans management restructure to save cash

The authority has agreed plans to ‘streamline’ is senior management structure, which will lead to savings in total of £159,000.

The savings will help the council balance its budget for the next financial year, for which is needs to plug a £920,00 funding shortfall.

Over the next three years it needs to save £4.2million following a cut in Government funding.

The proposals which are now being consulted on with staff include recommendations to delete a director post, and reduce the number of heads of service posts from seven to five.

Neil Taylor, the council’s chief executive, said: “It is vital that the organisation’s senior management structure appropriately reflects the challenges the council now faces, and not those of the past. The new arrangements will help deliver our key priorities and services for local people.”

“As the council has reduced the scale of its operations as Government funding is withdrawn, it is only right that the number of management posts decreases and that savings are achieved as a result.”

Coun Simon Greaves, council leader, said: “This review will deliver a structure that fits Bassetlaw’s future priorities and will allow senior managers to get on with delivering quality services.”

“The review will also generate significant savings and more than pays for initiatives such as delivering the Living Wage for our lower paid staff.”
