Bassetlaw: MP’s concern for district’s safety after Paris terror attacks

He told the Prime Minister on Wednesday, November 18 that his niece, Ruby, was caught up in the aftermath of the Paris attacks. She wanted to know whether this country will be safe on her return because she is worried about the cuts to the UK’s ambulance, police and fire services.

Following Mr Cameron’s answer, John Mann said he was not reassured due to cuts to emergency services in Bassetlaw, which he belives will include an end to night time cover at Retford Fire Station, merger of the district’s ambulance stations and the closure of Worksop police station.

John Mann said: “The Government have followed a relentless programme of cuts and this is hitting our precious emergency services hard.

“At the same time, we are facing the increasing risk of terrorist attacks on our own streets and public places.

“We need the finances in place to keep our police on the beat and we must have our 999 services ready to protect us in our hour of need.

“I want to know whether this country is safe not just for my niece Ruby, but for all of us and our family members, friends, neighbours and colleagues.”
