Bassetlaw NCT’s sale of the century

Bassetlaw NCT’s fundraising records were smashed when more than 550 adults came through the doors of North Notts Arena for its latest Nearly New Sale.

More than 5,700 items were sold with commission from each sale going towards providing crucial support for parents in the Bassetlaw area and nationally, including funding for local parent and baby groups, breastfeeding support for new mums and a national parents helpline.

Over the years the local sales have grown in popularity and now more than four times the number of people come through the doors than did in 2008.

Bassetlaw NCT branch co-ordinator Kay Piearcey thanked everyone for their support.

“The branch took a huge gamble when we moved to North Notts Arena, a venue five times larger than previous one, but Saturday’s sale shows that the gamble has definitely paid off,” she said.

“It is an amazing feeling knowing we are now reaching more parents than ever in these financially challenging times, whilst doing our bit for environment by recycling and raising funds for the NCT”.

The sales are staffed by an army of volunteers from the local community, many of who have attended local parent and baby groups themselves in the past.

As well as providing funding for the charity, the sales give local families the chance to pick up some great bargains and they attract parents from as far afield as Chesterfield and Sheffield.

One local mum said, “I had a really good rummage through everything and bought loads of cool stuff for my 4 month and 3 year old. I love Bassetlaw NCT sales”.

Bassetlaw NCT’s next local events will be a Teddy Bears Picnic on Sunday 1st July at Ranby House School and a Family Barn Dance at Dumb Hall Farm, Steetley on Saturday 7th July. Tickets are now on sale from [email protected]

Bassetlaw NCT also runs NCT Antenatal Classes in Worksop, for more information visit the NCT website www.nct.org.uk

The next Nearly New Sale will take place at the Arena on Saturday 29th September 2012.
