Alan McGee, who also founded Creation Records, has offered his support for the innovative new project, which aims to encourage an entrepreneurial approach towards interests in a musical career.

It will incorporate free one-to-one mentoring schemes, seminars and information sessions that will cover essential business skills such as promotion, marketing and publishing.

“I really like the idea behind this project and I not only want to support it, I want to assist it in any way I can,” said McGee.

Funded by the council and the European Regional Development Fund, the scheme will start with a series of seminars and workshops next year and then run over the summer of 2015 at North Nottinghamshire College and the Retford Enterprise Centre.

“Our aim is to not only propel existing talent, but also create new talent,” said Maurice Milligan, a music industry professional who is running the campaign alongside the council.

“If one person develops a worthwhile career as a result of this project, it will have been a success.”

As well as just making music, there will also be technical and production sessions in which musicians will learn how to digitally produce their own tracks ready for release, along with expert advice on event management and funding.

Cabinet member for regeneration, Coun Jo White said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone in Bassetlaw who has an ambition of working in the music industry.”

The project will be launched at the West Retford Hotel on Thursday, 21st November at 6pm. For more details, call 01909 533470.
