The centre would not be able to continue rescuing cats and dogs from cruelty and neglect without a volunteer team of animal fosterers.

The number of unwanted animals has reached crisis levels and the centre is full to bursting.

But local fosterers allow the centre to take in additional kittens, cats, puppies and dogs.

Fosterers provide loving care and help the animals to restore their faith in humans, so when they return to the centre on the Great North Road, they are ready to find their new forever home.

“We are looking for people who are passionate about animals for our special cats or dogs,” said centre co-ordinator Laura Bullock.

“Fostering is very rewarding and makes a huge difference for local animals in need.”

“Fostering is also flexible and can work around holidays. In addition, the RSPCA pays for food and vet bills.”

If you are interested in fostering cats or dogs, ring 01302 719790 between 11am and 4pm any day, except Wednesday, for a chat with one of the animal care team.

The centre rehabilitates and re-homes rescued animals entirely by public donations and has a policy of never putting an animal to sleep unless upon the advice of a vet for humanitarian reasons.

To donate, text SYAC14 £5 to 70070.
