Haxey Primary School received a clean bill of health with its pupils described by an inspector of the National Society of Anglican and Methodist Schools as having “positive attitudes” and becoming “confident learners who are encouraged to achieve their best within a supportive Christian environment.”

The school was also praised for its religious education that adds to pupils’ understanding of and respect for diverse faiths and cultures. And the contributions of both the church and the wider community to the school were seen to benefit pupils’ ‘spiritual, moral, social and cultural development’.

Headteacher Lynne Oldbury said: “Everyone at the school is really pleased with the outcome of our recent Church School Inspection, which clearly reflects and celebrates all our strengths as a Church of England Primary School and our distinctive Christian character.”

There were few recommendations for improvement but these were based on ensuring all school members recognise the Christian characteristics of school values and their daily impact, and ensuring governors have ‘robust procedures’ for monitoring effectiveness of the school’s Christian character. Pupils should be enabled to plan and lead worship for the school, added the report.

The school is good at meeting needs of all learners, with good leadership and management that ensures all pupils are valued as individuals. There are 198 pupils, 42 per cent of whom live outside the catchment area.
