The report just released for Saint Norbert’s Catholic Primary Voluntary Academy found little to criticise, with inspectors noting that the school “takes excellent care of all pupils” and that “pupils’ development is outstanding.”

Key findings included praise for attainment at both early years and Year 6, where pupils “reach above average standards in reading, writing and mathematics and are prepared well for the next stage of their education.”

Teaching was good in general with school leaders having ‘high aspirations to create an outstanding school’.

Reasons why the school does not yet quite qualify as outstanding, were given as the ‘quality of teaching not resulting in outstanding achievement for all pupils’, and some staff not being fully involved in checks on highest quality teaching.

Above average attendance at St Norbert’s continues to improve year on year, and both pupils and parents are proud of their school.

Inspectors noted that as the school promotes ‘highly principled values of honesty, trust and the right to be respected and respect others’, pupils act accordingly and are ‘excellent ambassadors for the school’.

Headteacher Pamela Tonge said: “I am fortunate to be part of such a wonderful community at St Norbert’s, and my team will continue as always to do the best we can for our pupils, so that they reach their full potential and are happy, well-rounded students with strong morals and great manners.”

Leadership and management was found to be good, with recent decisions having helped more pupils to work at high levels.

To further improve, the academy is advised to strengthen roles of subject and middle leaders by ensuring prompt action is taken when improvements will help all pupils achieve well.
