The refurbished shop in George Street was opened by Mayor of North Lincolnshire Coun Helen Rowson and Mayor of Barton upon Humber Coun John Oxley last week.

The hospice acquired the former Co-operative store to rent in February 2015 and it has taken five months to completely transform it.

It has a men’s wear department, a donation station to drop off unwanted goods, a memory tree and a major high-street brands new clothing section.

Sue Sumner, Lindsey Lodge Hospice retail and trading manager, has led the project.

“We outgrew our former shop on Prestige Street in Barton which is why we moved into this much larger property,” she said.

“It is in a better location compared to our previous shop and we are now in the heart of Barton.

“It will be run entirely by volunteers and a shop manager.

“We train all of our volunteers and staff to the highest standard to offer the best customer service possible.”

The hospice costs more than £4.50 every single minute to care for those with life-limiting illnesses in North Lincolnshire. It aims to make every moment special for patients and families in a caring and loving environment.

“We are really excited about the potential of this store because it could help raise a substantial amount for the hospice,” added Sue.

“This is our flagship store thanks to features such as our bright and meaningful wall art by MD Signs from Barton which includes the memory tree where people can hang their own memories for a donation.”

Mayor of North Lincolnshire Coun Helen Rowson said: “It’s fantastic to see the redevelopment of a store which was derelict for a while, especially because it’s for a fantastic cause which positively impacts the lives of people in North Lincolnshire.

“I think the store looks really welcoming and modern and it’s a great edition to the streets of Barton.

“I support the hospice through the Mayor’s Appeal and so far I have raised over £10,000 through various events and dinners thanks to the community supporting me.”

The former hospice shop on Prestige Street in Barton is now closed.

The opening hours for the new shop in George Street are Monday to Saturday 9am to 4pm.

The hospice is still looking for more volunteers to run the shop; for more information call Louise or Joanne on 01652 636622.
