Bolsover: Council fine tuning Festival of Brass plans

A total of 42 bands have entered the six-section contest on Sunday 5th October, which will see over 2,000 musicians taking part from 10am to 8pm.

The Festival of Brass will be held at Heritage High School in Clowne and the clamour from bands wanting to enter has meant the closing date has had to be brought forward.

Bands will perform in either the Main Hall or Sports Hall and with a very strong field in all sections.

Bolsover District Council’s cabinet member for social inclusion, coun Ann Syrett, said: “This festival just keeps growing and growing in popularity.”

“Every band worth its salt wants to take part and be involved in it and once again it promises to be another very entertaining weekend.”

“The calibre of bands and musicians that will be playing over the two days will not be seen anywhere else in the country so I would urge people to come along, enjoy the music and experience a weekend of top class entertainment at a very affordable price.”

Eight bands including previous winners Newstead Brass and Derwent Brass will contest the Championship Section whilst 10 bands including local band Shirebrook Miners Welfare Unison Brass Band, will battle it out in the 1st Section.

The day’s adjudicators are Brett Bake, Stephen Roberts and Mike kilroy.

Tickets for the event can be purchased on the day at the school, priced at £5 and £4 for concessions.

Following the Festival of Brass will be a charity entertainment contest held at Heritage High School as well on Saturday 4th October. The concert will feature Boobs and Brass (Yorkshire) Band, Thoresby Colliery Reunion Brass Band and Sir Richard Arkwright’s Masson Mills Brass Band.

The charity entertainment contest, which is in aid of Breast Cancer Research and the British Lung Foundation will start at 7pm. Tickets are priced at £5 and £4 concessions and are available from Bolsover District Council’s offices in Clowne or by telephoning 01246 242424 or on the door.
