Book sheds light on town and its past

A new book about Boston, written by a team of local writers, researchers, and others, is shedding light on the town and its history.

Boston – The Small Town with a Big Story follows the story of the town from its humble beginnings alongside a muddy creek in the Fens of the Wash to the present day.

It features more than two dozen writers, penning entries across a range of subjects.

Under ‘Sporting Heroes’, for instance, you can read about Boston’s Bill Julian, the captain that led Arsenal from its amateur to professional status back in 1891, having joined the team a few years earlier after playing for Boston Town.

Other figures featured include: 16th century entrepreneur Maud Foster, landscape gardener Capability Brown, and botanist and explorer Sir Joseph Banks.

It is published by Richard Austin Cherry Tree Books, priced £12.95, and is available from several locations in an around Boston, including the Shodfriars Coffee Shop, Oldrids, and The Stump Shop. It can also be purchased online from the Shodfriars Hall website.

Proceeds from this book will go towards featuring Boston’s heritage in Shodfriars.
