Boston Grammar School told it is taking '˜effective action' eight months on from Ofsted report

In February, Boston Grammar School was given the rating across the board, down from the school’s previous overall score of ‘good’ given following an inspection in 2013.

The grade was given to all judgement areas: Effectiveness of leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development, behaviour and welfare; outcomes for pupils; and 16-19 study programmes.

However, a visit in October by Inspector Sally Smith said that: “Senior leaders and governors are taking effective action to tackle the areas requiring improvement.”

Principal John McHenry said: “This is superb news for the pupils, parents, staff and governors of Boston Grammar School.

“The tireless and conscientious efforts of all involved are helping the school on its rapid journey towards restoring the school to ‘good’ and then striving for ‘outstanding’.”

Mr McHenry pointed to a ‘rigorous and detailed’ plan carried out over the past eight months as well as collaboration with other schools.

He said leadership had ‘strengthened at all levels’ and there was ‘a constant focus on improving the quality of teaching and learning so that it is consistently good or outstanding’.

The report from Ms Smith also noted ‘a vision of excellence’ and that ‘pupils and staff are in no doubt about [the school’s] higher expectations’.

Mr McHenry added: “Ambitious targets and a determination to ‘stretch and challenge’ pupils have driven much of the improvement in the short time since February.”

He thanked everyone for their support and called for them to ‘maintain the same level of industry and determination going forward’.
