Boston United set to respond to alleged Football Association probe

The Pilgrims needed victory to ensure their place in the top five, which would secure a play-off spot at the expense of Nuneaton Town.

They did so in emphatic style at Bower Fold.

The Daily Mail have reported that part of the probe will focus on whether any illegal betting patterns can be identified.

Boston dominated the match against their mid-table opponents and won 5-0 following a hat-trick from Dayle Southwell, plus goals from Jay Rollins and Grant Roberts.

In-form United went into the contest on the back of four wins and a draw.

The story in the Mail also suggests that Stalybridge played three academy players in that contest.

The four changes to the Celtic side which beat Corby Town 3-0 in their previous match were Amour Lingouba, Dale Wright, Aaron Chalmers and John Shaw, who replaced Jack Higgins, Charlie Joyce, Steve Tames and Adam Farrell.

Higgins has since been sold to York City and it has been suggested that Joyce’s loan spell from Southport has already ended.

Lingouba, who came through the club’s academy, was making his 11th appearance for Celtic, while Wright, Chalmers and Shaw were all established first teamers.

Both Stalybridge and Boston are reported to refute the allegations.
