Brad misses out

A NORTH Lindsey College plumbing hopeful shows he has a plumb career ahead of him after just missing out on a place in the Apprentice Plumber of the Year grand final.

Brad Thomas, 19, was put forward for the sought after title by his tutor John Hampshire who recognised his potential within weeks of him starting his apprenticeship at the college.

Attending the North West heat held at Oldham College last Friday, Brad competed against nine other young plumbers as they were tasked with piping up a combi jig to a radiator based on a project drawing supplied on the day.

Given just four hours to complete the task the independent judges were clearly impressed with the standard of workmanship they witnessed throughout the competition.

“We’re disappointed that Brad hasn’t made it through to the final but the standard of his work was outstanding,” said Mr Hampshire.

”On the day Brad was competing against Level 3 learners who have been learning the trade for over three years whist Brad has had just six months at College. For Brad to be competing at this level already clearly demonstrates the natural ability that he has.

The overall winner from the North West heats was Joseph O’Connell from Blackpool College, who will go through to the final at Newbury Racecourse next month.
