Lesley Woods and her husband-to-be Jason had booked home-based business Bake a Cake Catering in Halesowen, near Birmingham, for her wedding in August next year but the company ceased trading on Monday, August 17.

A number of complaints have been made to Action Fraud and Dudley Council’s trading standards department following the announcement.

“We have got no chance of getting our money back,” Lesley said.

Hundreds of disgruntled customers, which include some who are set to tie the knot this weekend, have set up a Facebook page in order to try find alternative replacement suppliers.

The owner of Bake A Cake Catering, Lisa Holt, said the decision was due to ‘circumstances beyond our control’. A message on the company’s Facebook page said it had been burgled and the subject of an arson attack, which was confirmed by West Midlands Police.

Lesley and Jason, of Langold, ordered a package deal which included a full room decoration, buffet, chocolate fountain, candy cart and photo booth amongst others.

“We booked them for a christening and they did an amazing job, hence why we booked again,” Lesley told the Guardian.

“It has taken a big chunk out of our money.”

Luckily, Worksop business Say it with a Balloon, on Shrewsbury Road, has now stepped-in to help the pair.

Lesley added: “It has given us confidence back and peace of mind because they have been so reassuring,”

A statement on the Bake a Cake Catering website says: “It is with great regret and sadness we have to inform all our clients that we have now ceased trading.

“(Due to) the pressures of circumstances beyond our control I am no longer able to trade.

“I realise a lot of you require answers and refunds and I am trying my best to resolve this situation. I cannot apologise to you enough.”
