'˜Bright' pupilswill now be safer at night

There's no way anyone can accuse pupils at Horncastle Primary School of being '˜left in the dark'.

That’s because a firm of locally based solicitors has presented the school with 180 high visibility vests.

With an office in Horncastle, solicitors Wilkin and Chapman wanted to help raise the profile of the dangers of rural roads - and improve the safety and visibility for the school’s pupils.

Steve Hennegan, chartered legal executive in the personal injury department, said: “We regularly have to deal with incidents that have happened on our roads and in our rural communities.

“To help avoid these incidents, we wanted to raise awareness locally and provide some resources to aid the safety of the local primary school children.

“Many of these children regularly walk to school and can be vulnerable at this time of year when visibility is often reduced. We hope that these high visibility vests will help the school to keep the children safer and more visible during the coming winter months and dark evenings.”

To coincide with the Horncastle safety initiative, Wilkin Chapman have launched a ‘Safer Roads’ campaign.

Headteacher Andrew Bradshaw said: “We are really grateful to Wilkin Chapman for the donation. This not only helps to ensure our children are visible but it will also help us to raise their awareness of the dangers of the roads and to be careful when crossing.”
