Britain’s last trolleybus makes special appearance

Number 844 from Bradford was the last trolley in service in the West Yorkshire city when services ceased in 1972 and it is currently housed at the Keighley Bus Museum.

But it made a special trip to Sandtoft so enthusiasts from far and wide could see it in its bright blue livery.

The old British trolleybuses were on display and working alongside some of the museum’s collection of continental and North American vehicles, including their oldest operational vehicle, No 425, which was built in 1932 for the Belgian town of Liege to a British 1920s design.

More modern vehicles in use included a 1980 Renault from Marseilles, and one from Canada, built to the iconic American ‘Goldfish Bowl’ design.
