St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support will share £4,460 between them after employees at the Lincolnshire developer raised £2,230 by holding a raffle at its Christmas dinner dance.

David Newton, Chestnut Homes’ managing director, had already pledged to double whatever the staff raised, leading to the bumper donation.

Tanya Taylor, from Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “I’d like to thank Chestnut Homes for its support.

“This donation will help to fund our vital work to reach and improve the lives of people living with cancer within our local community by providing medical, emotional and financial support when they need it most.”

St Barnabas is an independent charity which cares for more than 9,000 people a year who are living with life-limiting illnesses in the county.

All of its services are free but St Barnabas needs to raise more than £4 million every year to keep going.

Veronica Brien, head of fund-raising and marketing at St Barnabas, said: “Once again, it’s fantastic to see what the staff at Chestnut Homes have achieved. We cannot thank them enough for their ongoing support.”

David Newton added: “Our staff are a brilliant team and they were all very keen to donate and offer their support to these two very worthy causes.

“We’re proud and delighted to continue to support St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice – it’s an organisation which we have built up a great relationship with, and we look forward to building on this.

“We are also pleased to make this donation to Macmillan Cancer Support, which provides invaluable support to so many people.
