Burgh-le-Marsh pupil needs your vote be a winner

Ellie Reeve Groom, of St Peter and St Paul CE Primary School, has been selected to represent Skegness in the final stage of a national cooking competition.

The eight-year-old from Addlethorpe is one of ten finalists selected to be in with a chance of being crowned the UK’s Young Pea Chef of the Year 2016 a national recipe competition run in conjunction with the Yes Peas campaign, which challenges children aged four-12 to develop a delicious recipe using peas. Ellies’ recipe for Pea Sausage Rolls beat off hundreds of hopefuls.

She said: “Grandad runs a shoot and they make sausage rolls for it. I thought I could make some with granny and I added the peas to the recipe. We shared the ones we made with the people on the shoot and now we hope they will vote for me.”

The next stage of the competition calls upon the public to show their support and vote for their favourite recipe. The young chef with the most votes will be crowned Young Pea Chef of the Year 2016 and will win £500 worth of cooking equipment for their school from competition sponsor, Waitrose.

Judges include TV chef Rachel Green, Waitrose Frozen Foods Buying Manager, Michael Simpson-Jones, and representatives from Birds Eye and Penguin Foods.

Sarah Smith, headteacher at St Peter & St Paul CE Primary School, said: “It is great to see Ellie’s efforts being rewarded. This academic year began with a week-long visit of the Cooking Bus initiative and Ellie’s teacher Mrs Lillington has followed this up with the children participating in the Yes Peas! campaign. Making the final of such a competition is a huge achievement and we are thrilled for Ellie.”
