The lane was closed after the water main burst last Thursday causing traffic chaos.

The works continued over the weekend and into this week, coinciding with others on Sleaford Road to cause major delays.

Around 2,000 properties were temporarily affected while Anglian Water isolated the pipework.

A spokesman later said: ““The pipe is very deep underground though and there is a nearby brick wall which needs removing and lots of other utility pipes and cables running under the road which we need to carefully navigate, so unfortunately we will need to work through the weekend and into next week. This means one lane on the southbound carriageway will remain closed.

“Lincolnshire Highways Agency is fully aware of the work and we’d like to say thank you in advance to customers and road users in the area for their patience.”
