Northern, which runs the services, has announced the full timetable for services set to run during the day of industrial action on Friday, April 28.

A reduced service of trains will be running from Sheffield to retford, but passengers will have to transfer to a bus to continue their journey to Gainsborough, saxilby and Lincoln.

The train operator expects to run around 40 per cent of rail services and more than 300 additional rail replacement buses.

Sharon Keith, regional director for Northern, said: “Being able to run 40 per cent of services, supplemented by the extra rail replacement buses, means we will be able to keep the north of England on the move on April 28. Our timetables have been developed to provide services on our busiest routes, at the busiest times of day. But we expect all services to be busy and ask our customers to plan .”

The Rail, Maritime and Transport union has instructed its members to strike after talks with Northern bosses failed to reach agreement on the future of guards on its trains. The union says lives will be put at risk if trains operate without gaurds.
