Business park extension approved despite traffic

A scheme to extend a Sleaford industrial estate has been approved, despite concerns about increased traffic potentially causing problems at a busy junction.

The extension plans by Pocklington Pemberton Farming Partnership will see 15 hectares of farm land developed behind The Reservation industrial park off East Road.

The proposal was considered and given the go -ahead by North Kesteven District Council’s planning committee last Tuesday, in line with recommendations from planning officers.

The county’s highways department insist the increased traffic using the A17 slip road onto the A153 opposite the rugby club would cause problems and has called for funding for a new roundabout at the junction.

NKDC officers are suggesting limiting development on site until a junction scheme is agreed.

There was quite a debate about transport issues but no changes to the conditions were made.

NKDC’s economic development team warned further delay would undermine future growth and employment prospects.

They said in their report: “Without this extension to the Enterprise Park there is a real risk that local companies will be forced to relocate or expand outside the district – there is no other land available or allocated in Sleaford at present.”
