Businesses in Skegness urged to form more powerful voice

Skegness and District area Chamber launched its new way forward with the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce at a Business Forum breakfast meeting on Thursday.

From now on the 45-strong Skegness and District Chamber will become part of a countywide network of more than 1,040 members, taking advantage of a wide range of benefits, including marketing, greater website presence,  opportunities to sponsor events and business awards.

Tony Tye, chairman of the new Skegness and District Area Chamber, said: “I’m very excited. As a local group we have in the past fought East Lindsey District council over things like closing the Fairy Dell.

“The challenges facing business are many and complex and in some cases quite specialised to the coast. We need friends and allies throughout Lincolnshire to stand with us and us with them.”

Simon Beardsley, chief executive of Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Investing in local areas is the way forward – the old ways of sourcing funds won’t be there any more.

“We’re looking forward to bringing more benefits and opportunities to Skegness & District Area Chamber members.”

Paul McCooey, director of Duncan and Topliss, was at the breakfast meeting and said he was also excited about the new partnership. He said: “It will help local companies grow and bring them a new  audience. There has never been a more important time for small businesses to join.”

Paul Dixon, vice chairman of the Chamber and chairman of Skegness Carnival, said: “It’s about going forward and helping businesses grow. There are still many businesses that work as individuals but don’t know what is going on. Through the Chamber they will now be able to work together so everyone benefits.”
