Cadets at show

Working on the Safer Rotherham Partnership stall the cadets, alongside police and council staff, handed out crime prevention advice, discussed safety tips and registered people’s mobile phones on the Immobilise property database.

PCSO Supervisor Paul Newman said: “Immobilise is a national property database that enables lost or stolen items to be identified and reunited with their rightful owner. Anyone can register almost any kind of item on the database for free.”

Police officers were also on hand to encourage visitors to try the ‘beer goggles challenge game.

Giving you a visual experience of being drunk, children and adults put the goggles on and tried to pick up a key-ring or catch a mini football without dropping it.

With their distorted drunk vision, they found out just how difficult these simple actions can be.

PC Wayne Haywood said: “It was to show just how vulnerable and at risk you could be when intoxicated, not to mention how difficult it is to find your door keys if you drop them after a night out drinking.”

“All the children agreed that the disorientation the goggles created was not a nice feeling and I hope they remember that when they get older.”
