Café set to spotlight mortality

Death cafés give people a chance to confront the topic of death while eating cake and drinking tea together.

The group discussion has no set agenda or themes and the gathering does not offer grief support or counselling but an opportunity to raise awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives.

The event takes place in the Riverside Café on Monday, from 10.30-11.30am.

It is free to attend, but only open to those aged 18 or over.

Wendy Oldershaw, who will facilitate the event, said: “Within the circles of family and friends I have been fortunate to be involved in positive conversations about death, dying and loss, life and living. And having experienced loss in each decade of my life, I see the benefits of these conversations and introducing the death cafe within the wider arena of our area.”

Chocolate cake will be provided and other refreshments can be purchased.
