The bash at Anston Parish Hall, off Ryton Road, was attended by 40 current and six past members.

Cake was eaten, stories told, memories shared and music and poetry performed.

Anston WI has belonged to the Notts Federation since June 1948, and representatives from other institutes within the Sherwood Ryton group also attended on the night.

Founder member Betty Bolton cut the cake and made a heart warming speech during which she said that she honoured the past and embraced the future, and that WI values remained the same now as they were in the beginning.

Entertainment was provided by members of Anston institute who gave a mixed programme.

It varied from Pam Eyres poems to Tina Turner and Abba look-alikes.

Anston WI secretary Valerie MacDowell said it was “a most memorable occasion enjoyed by all”.

New members, young and old, are welcome to go along and see what the WI is all about. Call 01909 563740 to find out more about meetings and activities.
