Call to extend season in Skegness area close to target

Neville Allen has owned his own caravan at Parklands Caravan Site in Ingoldmells for six years, but says rising costs make it no longer acceptable for caravanners to be expected to abandon their investment from either mid-October or mid-January to early March.

Mr Allen is calling on other caravan owners to support his campaign ‘Extend Our Season - We’ve More Than Paid For It’ – and so far has about 850 of the 1,000 signatures he needs.

He said: “So many people can’t be wrong.

“There are over 2,000 caravans permanently sited along the East Lincolnshire coast.

“Many of these caravans have cost a small fortune to purchase and establish, with the majority of this money spent within the local economy.

“Year on year the site fees increase, yet the owners of these caravans are forced to abandon their investment between mid-October and mid-January until early March.

“This is no longer acceptable in today’s society.”

The campaign has won the support of John Chappell, of Skegness Water Leisure Park.

He said: “Extending the season at sites where caravans are fit for purpose in winter and where there is an adequate flood evacuation plan in place would increase income for businesses in the area and help employment.

“The impact on local services should not be a factor. It’s a National Health Service and people have paid their National Insurance.”

Once the campaign has 1,000 signatures, it will be presented to East Lindsey District Council.
