Calls for ELDC councillor numbers to be cut

A call has come for the number of East Lindsey district councillors to be reduced from the current number which is 55.

Coun Daniel McNally believes this is too high, given that the authority has reduced services or outsourced them to organisations such as Compass Point Business Services and Magna Vitae.

At a full meeting of the authority on Wednesday evening (February 24), he asked: “Will the leader be writing to the Boundary Commission to ask for a reduction in the number of councillors?”

Leader Coun Craig Leyland responded: “No - even though services are being delivered in different ways, district councillors continue to play a vital role in representing their communities, taking part in the decision-making process and representing the authority on outside bodies.”
