The accident involving a lorry and car took place on the Dry Doddington slip road on Saturday, and resulted in two people being taken to Queen’s Medical Centre by air ambulance. They remain in hospital today receiving treatment.

In a tweet following the incident, the East Midlands Operational Support Services Tactical Roads Policing Team said: “At an inc on A1 Lincs y’day a number of drivers past the scene filming on mobile phones. Don’t do this, its insensitive & illegal!”

It provoked an angry response, including from East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme doctor and volunteer for the Lincolnshire and Nottingham Air Ambulance, Mark Folman, who replied: “Not fair. Can my patients please have some dignity while I am treating them. Oh and keeping your eyes on the road keeps us safe.”

Another Twitter user said: “What is wrong with people! Why do they do this. Have some respect for those involved”, while Cat Taylor responded: “Unbelievable!!”

Both carriageways of the A1 were closed to allow the Air Ambulance to land, following the crash on the southbound side at 8.50am on Saturday. It involved an HGV and a silver Audi car.
