Cannabis farm discovered on Maltby community action day

Police officers joined forces with Rotherham Council, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and local residents on Wednesday 20th February to target issues and concerns raised by residents at their local Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meeting.

The operation took place around Berseford Road, Nelson Road, Farquhar Road, Tickhill Road, Glenncairn Court and Highfield Park, known locally as China Town.

Two people were arrested for cannabis production at a property on Birks Holt Drive after 20 plants and a hydroponics set-up was found at the property.

A man was also cautioned for possession of cannabis after officers found a small quantity of cannabis on him.

PC Anna Perry from the Maltby Safer Neighbourhood Team said the day had seen some very positive results.

“It was a really positive day with a fantastic turn out from the community,” she said.

“We hope to continue these action days and are really keen to hear from people about any issues or concerns they have in their area. It was great to see the residents taking pride in their community.”

Officers and young people set up a speeding operation along Tickhill Road after residents complained about speeding motorists.

Thirty two vehicles were checked using the hand held speed gun, but no motorists were found to be speeding.

Police gave road safety advice and booklets to local children and high visibility vests were given to local newsagents for staff to use when delivering papers.

A drop-in surgery was also held at Glenn Cairn Community Centre where residents spoke to local officers about any issues they had. Crime prevention advice was also given.

Officers from Rotherham Council did a litter and waste collection with help from local people, managing to fill a large skip.

And South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue visited properties offering fire safety advice and doing checks on the properties.

Police officers and PCSOs also patrolled the area talking to people and giving crime prevention advice.

Particular attention was paid to Lincoln Street, Farqhuar Road and Nelson Road which had been identified as having issues with antisocial behaviour.
