Organiser, Rosemary Thomas, has been working to help the deprived children of Father Showry’s diocese in Andhra Pradesh in southern India for the past 18 years.

She held the Christmas coffee morning at the Grey Horses in Carlton-in-Lindrick and raised about £500 in just a few hours.

Rosemary said: “ I’d like to thank Sally and Chris of the Grey Horses for their hospitality also the people who gave raffle prizes and donated items for the stalls.”

“ Extended thanks are given to the helpers, the people who came on the morning and everyone who helped in anyway to make the morning such a success.”

As well as raising money, Mrs Thomas also encourages people in the UK to sponsor and support a child.

There are currently 70 children being sponsored from the orphanage and many of the children’s sponsor parents manned the Christmas stalls at the coffee morning.

Rosemary added:“With some backing and support from people here, some of these children have been able to escape the poverty and really make something of their lives.”

“Stories of these children growing up and doing well are proof that the support we give here really does work and make a difference.”

To help raise funds, at the coffee morning there was a Mystery Meg who told the visitors their fortunes and a raffle.

Rosemary will be carrying on her fundraising for the orphanage and is setting up a stall on Saturday 8th November, at the Retford Buttermarket, with Christmas gifts, jewellery and much more.
