Carlton-in-Lindrick: Have a coffee and help Indian orphans

Organiser Rosemary Thomas has been working to help the deprived children of Father Showry’s diocese in Andhra Pradesh in southern India for the past 16 years and is running a special Christmas coffee morning at the Grey Horses in Carlton on 2nd November

“I have been involved with helping these children for a while now and I usually try to go out to India to see them every two years and it’s so rewarding to see them making the best of their lives,” she said.

As well as raising money, Mrs Thomas also encourages people in the UK to sponsor and support a child.

“With some backing and support from people here, some of these children have been able to escape the poverty and really make something of their lives,” she continued.

“One of them is now doing a masters degree at a top university, another is working for a big HR company and a third works for Avis in Hyderabad, which is so encouraging.”

“These stories of these children growing up and do well are proof that the support we give here really does work and make a difference.”

The event in Carlton runs from 11am to 1pm and as well as raising money for India, it is also, Mrs Thomas says, a good opportunity to get some early Christmas shopping done.

“We will have a variety of stalls including Christmas gifts and jewellery, along with cakes, a tombola and a raffle,” she said.

“We will also have Mystery Meg there who will tell people’s fortunes.”
