Carlton man cleared of raping woman

The woman claimed David Harris, 33, of High Road, forced himself on her at her home.

She got a knife from the kitchen and told him to get out, she told Nottingham Crown Court.

But he said the woman, in her mid-20s, had invited him back to her home where they had consensual sex.

She became angry when he said he wanted to go home, saying she did not do ‘one-night stands.’

The court heard he first met her at the bar in a North Notts village a week earlier and that he ‘found her fun’.

The following week she came into the bar and apologised for her previous behaviour, inviting him back to her home.

She invited him upstairs and took all her clothes off in the bedroom.

When he said he was going, he saw she had fetched a knife about ten inches long. She said: ‘I’m not that sort of woman.’

A witness told the police the woman, a friend for some years, called her at 4.20am to say she had been raped.

She said she had allowed Harris to sleep at the house but thought it would be in a separate room. The court heard Harris phoned the police to say he had been threatened by a woman with a knife.

The jury took an hour and a half to find him not guilty of two charges of rape and a sexual assault.
